Amaravati to Get One of India’s Largest Cricket Stadiums
A new hub for international cricket in Andhra Pradesh
A Vision for World-Class Infrastructure
The proposed stadium is set to be a monumental project, with plans to build it on 60 acres of land within a larger 200-acre sports city. The estimated cost is approximately ₹800 crore, with financial assistance being sought from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and local fundraising efforts. The ACA’s vision is to create a venue that is operational year-round and capable of hosting various sporting and cultural events, beyond just cricket.
Surpassing Existing Benchmarks
Once completed, the new stadium is projected to have a seating capacity of over 1.25 lakh, which would surpass the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to become the largest cricket stadium in India. This capacity would also place it among the largest cricket venues in the world. ACA officials, including Secretary MP Sana Satish and President Kesineni Sivanath, have emphasized that the facility will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including modern floodlighting for day-night matches, premium viewing suites, and dedicated fan zones, designed to provide an unparalleled spectator experience.
Impact on Local and National Cricket
The stadium is expected to be a major catalyst for regional economic growth, creating thousands of jobs during the construction phase and providing long-term employment opportunities in hospitality, management, and other service sectors. Furthermore, the project includes plans for a dedicated cricket academy within the complex to nurture local talent. The ACA hopes this initiative will help identify and train promising young cricketers, with a goal of seeing more players from Andhra Pradesh represent India and secure spots in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The ACA is also considering a bid to host the 2029 National Games in Amaravati, which would further solidify the city’s position as a premier sports destination.
